BERKELEY – It’s not unusual for a person to continue his or her education in order to further his or her career.
But the way in which Cal senior associate athletic director Foti Mellis is doing so is truly unique.
Mellis was one of 25 senior-level athletic administrators from across the country who was selected to participate in the 2017 NCAA Pathway Program, designed to provide aspiring athletic directors with the skills and knowledge of fulfilling his or her career goal. The year-long experience includes quarterly meetings at the NCAA headquarters in Indianapolis and culminates at the 2018 NCAA Convention next June in Washington, D.C.
“When I got into this business many years ago, my goal was to one day become an athletic director. I look forward to achieving that goal through this program,” said Mellis, who recently completed his 15th year at Cal and has worked in athletic administration for 27 years. “With every professional step, I’ve looked for ways to prepare myself to lead as an A.D. I feel fortunate to have this opportunity to realize my goal.”
